Commissioners

The four County Commissioners are responsible for overseeing county infrastructure, managing the budget, setting local policies, and making decisions on public services within their precincts.

Constables

The four County Constables serve legal documents and support the Justice of the Peace in criminal and civil matters within their precincts.

County Attorney

The County Attorney prosecutes misdemeanor criminal cases, provides legal counsel to county officials, and represents the county in civil matters.

County Clerk

The County Clerk manages public records, issues licenses, and maintains official county documents.

The County Court at Law handles misdemeanors and civil cases, guardianship matters, assists with certain juvenile court matters, and justice court appeals.

County Judge

The County Judge serves as the Chief Administrator and Presiding officer of the Commissioners Court, overseeing county government operations, budgeting, probate, and juvenile court matters.

County Sheriff

The County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for law enforcement, maintaining public safety, investigating crimes, managing the county jail, and serving legal documents.

County Treasurer

The County Treasurer manages the county’s finances, oversees revenue collection, and ensures the proper handling and disbursement of funds in accordance with legal requirements.

Justices of the Peace

The four County Justices of the Peace handle various judicial duties, including presiding over small claims, truancy cases, and performing marriage ceremonies.

Tax Assessor & Collector

The Tax Assessor/Collector is responsible for assessing property values, collecting property taxes, and processing vehicle registrations and titles within the county.

District Clerk

The Atascosa County District Clerk’s Office maintains official records for the District Courts, including civil, criminal, and family law cases. The office manages jury services, court filings, and the collection of court costs and fees, while ensuring accurate recordkeeping and public access to court information. The District Clerk’s Office also serves as a certified passport acceptance facility for U.S. passport applications.

District Court

Presides over felony cases, divorce, and civil matters.

Child Protection Court

Presides over child abuse and neglect cases as well as adoptions.

Adult Probation

Enforces conditions set by the court, monitors progress, conducts visits and drug testing

Animal Control

The County Animal Control enforces animal welfare laws, manages stray animals, and promotes public safety through responsible pet ownership and animal care services.

County Auditor

The County Auditor oversees financial records, ensures compliance with accounting regulations, and monitors county expenditures to maintain fiscal accountability.

Elections Administration

The County Elections Office administers local elections, maintains voter registration records, and ensures the integrity of the electoral process in the county.

Emergency Management

The Atascosa County Emergency Manager coordinates disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to protect lives and property during emergencies.

EMS

The County EMS provides emergency medical services, responding to medical emergencies and transporting patients to medical facilities.

Fire Marshal

The County Fire Marshal’s Office investigates fire incidents, enforces fire safety regulations, and provides education and prevention programs to ensure community safety.

Indigent Health Care

The County Indigent Health Program provides basic medical assistance to low-income residents who meet eligibility requirements and have no other access to healthcare.

Historical Commission

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office serves Atascosa County by providing research-based education and programs that strengthen agriculture, support youth development through 4-H, promote healthy living, and enhance community and economic growth.

The County Veteran’s Office assists veterans and their families in accessing benefits, services, and resources available through state and federal programs.
